About Us

The Parker Ranch plan consists of providing our customers with fertile, efficient, and functional cattle.  We also strive to give you cattle with great dispositions.  Our cattle have been exposed to horses,  four-wheelers, dogs, and people on foot.

Culling Criteria: Our Sale Bulls must meet a stringent set of standards just to be on test here.  They are weighed monthly and culled accordingly - especially for disposition.  They are fed a high fiber growing ration to gain 3.2 lbs per day. Then they are exercised on the 3/4 mile track three days a week, which not only gets them into shape for the upcoming breeding season, but also enables us to cull for structural soundness and disposition once again.  Our females are also culled for disposition, structural soundness, udder, and fertility / productivity.

Calving Procedures:  During calving season, the cows are ridden through twice daily.  The calves are identified, weighed, and tagged and given probios.  Extensive treatment records are kept from birth on all calves born on the Parker Ranch.

Breeding Practices:  Parker Ranch cows and heifers are in a 60-day breeding season.  The females are artificially inseminated twice and then turned out with a clean-up bull.  For sire selection, we look for very efficient, moderate framed bulls with well balanced EPD's.

Vaccination Program:  Calves - are given Probios at birth.  Between 2-4 montths of age are given Virashield 6+, Blackleg 7-way, Autogenous Respiratory Vaccine, and dewormed with a booster 4 weeks following.  Heifers at Weaning - are Bangs vaccinated and given Pasturella.  Yearling Heifers - are given (before breeding season) Spirovac, Virashield 6+ VL5, Blackleg 7-way, Autogenous Respiratory Vaccine and dewormed.  Yearling Bulls - are given Virashield 6+ VL5, Blackleg 7-way, Autogenous Respiratory Vaccine, dewormed, and Foot Rot vaccine.  Cows - are given in the Spring and Fall, Spirovac, Scour Bos 9, Blackleg 7-way, Virashield 6+ VL5 and dewormed.
